{Late} Dollar store Halloween Craft
So, i'm terrible at posting. (obviously)
Here is a little craft you can do with your girlfriends for a quick and easy DIY for Halloween! I got together with two gals in my ward to make these for my VT gift for October.
All you need is a dollar store pumpkin, tissue paper, some mod modge, a glue gun, stem of your choice, some ribbon/feathers/glitter, and some paint (optional)
I had most of the items at home, but I bought a feather boa from Walmart for like $6 and the cute tissue paper. I cut a small branch off of a tree and cut some stems for these.
I pulled off the ugly little brown stem that comes on the pumpkin. I prefer to add a cute glittery one!
Once you pull that off, all you need to do is paint the pumpkin to cover the orange. (I used white)
Once that dries, you rip pieces of the tissue paper and modge podge it on. Doesn't have to be perfect. Mine has wrinkles and things. Creates a bit of character I say!
While the pumpkin is drying paint your stem. You can use a piece of tree branch as i did, or get a round piece of wood from Home Depot/Lowes. I can't for the life of me remember what this is called! Doggle? Spindle? no... oh man. What the heck is it called? That is going to drive me nuts. This mommy brain I tell ya.. OOOOH!!! A DOWEL!! (totally googled it) You'll have to cut it to size and paint it. I painted mine Black and added some glitter to jazz it up.
Once your tissue paper is dried completely, push your stem into the pumpkin just a bit to create a little nook for it to sit in. Once you get your placement just right, put a bunch of glue in the nook and stick your stem in. I went around the stem with extra glue to make site it wouldn't go anywhere. Once that hardens go ahead and add your feathers/tulle/ribbon. I glued my feathers and tulle in place.
and voila. done and done.
You've done the easiest and cutest Halloween craft ever.
Not too shabby for a cheap dollar store deal eh? I loved this one so much I made one for my mom and sisters too. :)
